Supernovae And Their History Is Topic Of CU Astronomy Show

One of the most violent phenomena in astronomy – supernovae – will be the topic of a live astronomy show at CU-Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Friday, Nov. 3, and Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. University of Colorado at Boulder astronomy Professor Richard McCray will delve into the subject of supernovae, looking at everything from ancient Chinese inscriptions to current observations of these rare stars and how new observations are used to measure the expansion of the universe.

Ten New CU-Boulder Study Abroad Programs To Start In Spring 2001

The University of Colorado at Boulder has added 10 new programs to the choices undergraduate students have to study around the globe, including Cuba, Jordan and the Dominican Republic. The new additions will start in spring semester 2001. CU-Boulder students can now choose from more than 140 Study Abroad programs in 70 countries. Programs are available in a variety of lengths, including by semester, academic year or summer. Not all choices are available for all programs. The deadline to apply for fall 2001 programs is March l.

CU Researchers Show Family Helpful In Treatment Of Bipolar Disorder

Patients battling the often crippling effects of bipolar disorder now may have another ally in their fight to control the disease – their own family members. Researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder have completed a yearlong study showing that patients who received medication and an experimental family-focused treatment program had fewer episodes of the disease, and longer delays before relapses, than those receiving medication and standard community treatment.

Rutgers University Professor Donald McCabe To Discuss Honor Codes On Nov. 1-2

The presentation will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Aspen Room 215 at the University Memorial Center, and again on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Regent Administrative Center room 302.

CU-Boulder To Host Food Drive At Oklahoma State Game Oct. 28

University of Colorado football fans will have the chance to help BoulderÂ’s needy families while they cheer on the Buffs against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday, Oct. 28. CU-Boulder and Community Food Share will host a food drive at Folsom Stadium that day to collect canned and other non-perishable food, as well as cash contributions, from fans as they enter the stadium.

CU-Boulder Student Athletes To Donate Buffalo Hugs To Community Hospital Patients

Underwater Breathing Apparatus Honored In Search For New Inventions

An underwater breathing device created by two University of Colorado at Boulder researchers was named one of 18 semifinalists in Hammacher Schlemmer's 2000 Search for Invention Competition. The Pressurized Snorkel was invented by Igor Gamow, a professor of chemical engineering and well-known inventor of devices to enhance human performance, and by research associate Dana Ruehlman. Their patented device is as easy to use as a snorkel but enables divers to stay up to 12 feet underwater for several hours.
