The University of Colorado at Boulder has added 10 new programs to the choices undergraduate students have to study around the globe, including Cuba, Jordan and the Dominican Republic.
The new additions will start in spring semester 2001. CU-Boulder students can now choose from more than 140 Study Abroad programs in 70 countries.
Programs are available in a variety of lengths, including by semester, academic year or summer. Not all choices are available for all programs. The deadline to apply for fall 2001 programs is March l.
Â鶹ÒùÔº receive in-residence credit for courses taken in a CU-Boulder sponsored program and financial aid and scholarships are available. Orientation sessions are offered on campus for all programs before departure.
The new programs are:
o Centro Félix Varela in Havana, Cuba -- Introduces students to contemporary Cuban issues through an interdisciplinary series of lectures and field visits, and provides a unique opportunity to meet with key representatives of Cuban society. Designed for students with a special interest in Cuba.
o Culture, Identity and Community in Cuba -- Â鶹ÒùÔº learn about Cuba's unique cultural heritage and the formation of Cuban identity from the University of Havana's social sciences faculty. The program includes Spanish language classes, a home stay and field studies.
o Goldsmiths College, University of London -- Provides a rigorous and creative academic experience in the humanities, social sciences and communication.
o Imperial College, University of London -- Provides students majoring in natural sciences, computer science and engineering an opportunity to study abroad at a premier institution.
o University of Westminster, London -- Designed for students who are highly motivated and particularly interested in media studies, communication, studio arts, film production and related fields.
o Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic -- Provides Spanish-speaking students with the opportunity to pursue advanced studies of the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, including an internship with a local grassroots development project.
o Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin -- Gives music students the opportunity to study vocal performance at a German music school. Classes are regularly enriched by guest concerts, master classes and lectures given by world-famous artists, teachers and scholars.
o University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan -- Provides students with intensive Arabic language courses combined with a multidisciplinary set of courses about the modern Middle East.
o Bilkent University and Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey -- Â鶹ÒùÔº take a multidisciplinary core course about modern Turkey linked with excursions to museums and cultural institutions, and may choose from a variety of courses taught in English.
o St. Petersburg State University in Russia -- Intended for students who are interested in an academic program taught in English and have less than two years of Russian language preparation. Offers a set of courses in English on Russian history, politics, culture and current events.
The Study Abroad Program of the Office of International Education is located in the basement of the Environmental Design Building and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
