 In this project, my co-author and I have explored, in a series of papers, a topic known as action formation—that is, how speakers formulate particular actions so that they are recognizable as those actions.  We have focused on requests, which have received fairly intensive examination by othe

r scholars.  We have focused on the morpho-syntactic organization of requests, as well as on the embodied actions of both customers and staff during the request sequence.
