Councils

Standing committees of the College of Engineering and Applied Science include:

Administrative Council

The Admin Council provides a faculty advisory capacity to the dean. Members of the Admin Council are the department chairs and program directors of the college. Council membership is coincident with department/program elected leadership responsibilities. Input and discussion center on budget, governance, policy and other cross-college matters. The associate and assistant deans also participate in Admin Council meetings. Meetings are held monthly.

Faculty Governance Council

The CEAS Faculty Governance Council shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Dean in making decisions related to issues of administration including, but not limited to, budget and resource policy and distribution, faculty evaluations and grievances, and faculty advancement. In addition, this council shall appoint an evaluation committee to perform a fair, thorough, and confidential evaluation of the Dean.

First Level Review Committee

The First Level Review Committee serves as a college committee. It is charged with providing independent recommendations on reappointment, promotion and tenure based on an assessment of the research, teaching and service contributions of each candidate and their future potential. Approximately 12 full professors are appointed, following discussion by the dean and the department chairs. Members nominally serve three-year terms and may be reappointed for additional terms at the discretion of the dean. The dean appoints the chair of the committee and a vice chair from a different unit than the chair. 

Graduate Education Council

The Graduate Education Council consists of a faculty representative from each graduate degree-granting department and program (normally the chair of that department or program’s graduate committee), a staff representative from each such department and program (normally the staff graduate coordinator or advisor of that department or program), the Associate Dean for Â鶹ÒùÔº, and the directors of programs and services related to student support and learning. The Graduate Education Council is chaired by the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. Voting members include the faculty representatives and the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.

Inclusive Culture Council

The mission of the Inclusive Culture Council (ICC) is to provide strategic leadership and transparency for cultivating an inclusive, equitable, interculturally competent, and supportive environment in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. The ICC strives to bring justice, equity, diversity and inclusion leaders within the college together for systematic, intentional and integrative planning and to formalize equitable and inclusive practices with established metrics. The council works closely with the college’s representative to the IDEA Council to ensure alignment with the university’s equity, diversity and inclusion overall goals.

Staff Council

The Staff Council provides a staff advisory capacity to the dean. Council members are elected from across the college for two-year terms. Input and discussion center on fostering a sense of community within the college and facilitating communication of staff issues and concerns. Meetings are held monthly.

Undergraduate Education Council

The Undergraduate Education Council consists of a faculty representative from each undergraduate degree-granting department and program (normally this will be the chair of that department or program’s undergraduate committee), a staff representative from each such department and program (normally this will be the staff undergraduate coordinator or advisor of that department or program), the Associate Dean for Â鶹ÒùÔº, and the directors of programs and services related to student support and learning. The Undergraduate Education Council is chaired by the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs. Voting members include the faculty representatives and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.
