This Week at the College of Music: Faculty and Staff Edition - April 15, 2021

Picture of the Week: Artists for the future

The Entrepreneurship Center for Music (ECM)鈥攊n partnership with the Leeds School of Business鈥攂uilds on the College of Music鈥檚 academic excellence by offering students opportunities to learn more about the business of music and how applied entrepreneurship can expand career versatility. In particular, the Undergraduate Certificate in Music Entrepreneurship prepares students for cross-disciplinary careers in the arts. 鈥淭he certificate program made me think outside of the box and become a much more well-rounded musician,鈥� says violinist and graduating senior Sophia Thaut. 鈥淚 really feel that I鈥檝e benefited from this program, and I'm sure I'll use the skills I've learned throughout my music career.鈥� Curtis Sellers, an oboist and fellow graduating senior, agrees: 鈥淭he certificate program helped me put myself out there and make connections with people I never would have otherwise.鈥� Read on about the apps Thaut and Sellers are working on for their capstone projects.

The Colorado Lullaby Project: Nurturing Social Connection Through Song has been awarded $9K by the CU Boulder Outreach Awards Committee. Congratulations to Associate Professor Jeffrey Nytch who directs the College of Music鈥檚 Entrepreneurship Center for Music!
The first-ever Brenda M. Romero CU Dissertation Award in Music and/or Sound Studies and Social Justice was awarded to doctoral student Ben Cefkin. Professor Emerita Brenda M. Romero is founding coordinator of ethnomusicology at the College of Music.
College of Music Spring 2021 Virtual Commencement: We'll celebrate all our Spring 2021 graduates with a special virtual ceremony on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. MDT.
To honor the memory of CU Boulder Marching Band devotee Teri Leiker鈥攁 victim of the March 22 mass shooting in Boulder鈥攁 has been established by donors Marty Coffin Evans and Robert Trembly to support marching band students.

Shelly Miller, an aerosol scientist at the University of Colorado听Boulder, and lead author of the Indoor Air paper, has since been collaborating on a study of Covid-prevention measures with the International Coalition of Performing Arts."听
