Among several notable activities by the College of Music’s music education department of late, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies Margaret Berg—with doctoral students Garrett Graves, Charles Oldencamp and Gentry Ragsdale—presented a project-facilitated research poster titled “A self-study of graduate student core reflection applications to preservice teaching” at the 2023 Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) Symposium. Additionally, Associate Professor of Music Education Kelly Parkes presented two co-authored research posters—“Measuring diversity competence in music teacher education: How, when, and most importantly, why?” and “Cultural humility: Meaning and practice for music teacher education.” Also at the symposium, Associate Professor David Rickels was acknowledged for his excellent work as SMTE chair (2020-2022); Rickels’ two-year term as past chair concludes in 2024. College of Music alumni presenters at the SMTE Symposium included Sarah Van Dusen (PhD ’16), Iowa State University; Jacob Holster (PhD ’21), Penn State University; and Angela Munroe (PhD ’18), West Virginia University.
