The Aakash Mittal Quartet, led by Aakash Mittal (BM 2007, saxophone), received the ASCAP/Chamber Music America award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music for jazz ensemble in January in New York. The group performs its members鈥� original works and draws heavily on the improvisational vocabulary and compositional aspects of the North Indian classical raga tradition.

Several students of Professor of Piano Andrew Cooperstock were recently named prize winners in the 鈥淣ew York Concerti Sinfonietta 2011 International Piano Concerto Competition.鈥� Grand Prize winner Antonio Pastor-Otero (DMA), now professor at the Conservatoire de Musique de Gen猫ve (Switzerland), performed Haydn鈥檚 鈥淐oncerto in D Major鈥� at Carnegie Hall鈥檚 Weill Hall on Dec. 17. He was joined by his wife, second prize winner Pia Bose (DMA), who performed Mozart.
