Tesla Quartet Places at Multiple Competitions

The Tesla Quartet, graduate string quartet-in-residence at the CU College of Music, has earned the Gold Medal in the Senior Strings Division of the illustrious Fischoff Chamber Music competition. After several rounds of rigorous competition, the Tesla Quartet emerged with the gold medal in the senior strings division along with a $3,000 cash prize. In addition to the prize money, the Tesla Quartet will participate in a tour of the midwestern United States in October.

CU Chamber Ensembles to Participate in Fischoff Competition

Three chamber ensembles, all of differing instrumentation, have been accepted to compete with top musicians from across the country in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Based on audition materials and applications, the Zenobia Quintet, the Flatirons Brass Quintet and the Tesla Quartet have all been accepted into this illustrious competition.

Alumni Anasazi String Quartet win MTNA Chamber Music Competition

The Anasazi String Quartet (ASQ) won 1st Prize in the 2012 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet, praised by audiences for their passionate and engaging performances, has been playing together since the fall of 2009. Founded at the University of Colorado at Boulder, ASQ pursued studies with the school’s string faculty: Lina Bahn, Judith Glyde, Erika Eckert, and the Takács Quartet.

Beth Rosbach (MM '04, cello) founds Sphere Ensemble

In April 2011, CU College of Music alumna Beth Rosbach (MM Cello Performance 2004) started a new Colorado based conductorless string chamber orchestra called Sphere Ensemble. The inspiration for the group came from a self-conducted performance by the string sections of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

CU Invitational Orchestra Festival

n April 8, 2011, the College of Music hosted the first CU Invitational Orchestra Festival. The festival involved the participation of three orchestras from Boulder High School, and orchestras from Legacy High School, Lakewood High School and Cherry Creek High School.
