Environmental Education & Corporate Sustainability
Where There Be Dragons, a Boulder-based company, provides educational summer and gap year abroad programs that allow students to experience diverse cultures in remote places while engaging in social and environmental issues. The organization has received international attention following the return of Malia Obama, former President Obama’s eldest daughter, from a Dragon’s trip to Bolivia and Peru. The capstone project has two components: 1) Designing environment-related curriculum covering global environmental issues (climate change, environmental justice, resiliency, etc.) for Dragon’s summer programs, as well as an Advocacy Handbook to help students focus their energy upon returning home; and 2) Acting as a sustainability consultant for the organization, which will include leading the effort to certify Dragons as a B Corp. Becoming certified as a B Corp is a rigorous process that requires organizations to use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
