This event will be held on-campus, and invitations will be sent over the next few weeks to all eligible new staff that have started in the college since the last orientation in mid-February. Be sure to make the most of CU’s annual Open Enrollment period for benefits plans. Eligible employees will be able to enroll, update or change their health care plans for the 2024-25 plan year from April 22 through May 10.

Funds exhausted for remainder of 2023-24 fiscal year
Funding has been exhausted for the remainder of the fiscal year for awarding professional development funds from the college. For professional development funding of the remainder of the current FY, please work with your unit leadership to explore opportunities.

FY 2024-25 funding applications open July 1
CEAS HR will start accepting applications for professional development funding in July until all the funds have been exhausted from the FY24-25 budget. Funding of up to $500 per staff member per fiscal year is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

All college organizational (org) charts have now been transitioned to Microsoft Visio. Live training on the tool was offered in January, and links to organizational charts and supplemental training resources were subsequently sent to all units and department leads and HRLs. Please verify that your team’s organizational charts are up-to-date and that they follow the appropriate standards for the upcoming organizational planning efforts.

Need a refresher on how to use Visio for your unit’s org charts? 

To better manage position change requests for staff throughout the College, CEAS HR requests that supervisors and/or human resources liaisons (HRLs) seek to formally request change by submitting a Change Request Form.

Change Request Forms should be initiated by a supervisor or HRL on behalf of a staff employee within the College of Engineering & Applied Science. They can be requested for the following scenarios:

• Requesting a staff promotion
• Requesting a salary adjustment for a staff employee (without promotion)
• Requesting a new staff position (i.e. new headcount)
• Requesting to backfill a vacant staff position
• Requesting a new supervisor for a staff employee

By having supervisors or HRLs request approval for these HR functions through the Change Request Form, we are creating a system in which all requests go through a standardized approval process, and requests are reviewed and approved equitably through a data-driven process.

All supervisors and HRLs should have received an email with instructions for how to proceed with submitting new position change requests. For any questions regarding this form, please contact CEASHR@colorado.edu or attend the CEAS HR Virtual Office Hours every other Tuesday.

Madison Lane, Human Resources & Operations Manager, CEAE
Madison is being nominated for the Employee Recognition Award for her outstanding work and dedication she consistently exemplifies for CEAE. She tirelessly works toward steering the department toward an inclusive, efficient, and effective work environment. She regularly steps up to any task, and also demonstrates a willingness to grow and learn. Madison’s staff call her a professional rock star. She earned this reputation because she not only steered the department through an extremely rough patch when there were no finance staff in the department, she also supported the new finance team as they worked to rebuild and grow in new and innovative ways, providing constructive criticism that was and is well received. The benefit to the department of her calm, professional and steady demeanor is beyond measure. She sets the stage for success daily and is a model for staff engagement across the college and university and is passionate about engaging the faculty to create a positive environment for faculty-staff relations. She is an incredible asset for the department, the college and the university.

Kathryn Baack, CADSWES Finance Specialist, CADSWES
Kathryn Baack has served as the financial and HR coordinator at CADSWES for over 10 years. She has brought a new level of expertise and professionalism to the wide range of responsibilities of this position that are essential to the business operations of the Center. Her efforts at improving processes to provide greater service are consistently great and the results are top-tier. Her cheerful attitude in her dedicated assistance to our students and faculty contributes to the CADSWES team spirit of collegiality.

Gwendolyn Miller, Technology Transfer Coordinator, CADSWES
Gwen Miller serves CADSWES in a multitude of diverse activities ranging from managing the sales of RiverWare licenses to office management, serving the Center’s faculty, students and the federal employees that share our office space. She coordinates our professional training classes, plans and executes our official functions, and oversees the Center website. Her responsibilities are incredibly diverse and her dedication to service is indeed impressive. She is deeply appreciated by everyone at CADSWES and the wider range of people with whom she conducts business for her cheerful and can-do attitude.

Angela Eberhardt, Senior HR Generalist, ADMIN
The Staff Incentive Award is being presented to Angela for leading and executing HR process and tool improvement initiatives for standardized org charts and position requests across the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Thank you so much for all your hard work, Angela!

Robyn Sandekian, Director of Faculty Advancement, ADMIN
In her years of service with CEAS, Robyn has made innumerable contributions, working to improve policies, practices, and conditions for her colleagues.  We are so grateful for absolutely everything that Robyn has done during her time with CEAS. Her retirement will be bittersweet but we are so excited for the next adventure that Robyn is moving on to. Thank you for absolutely everything you have done for us, Robyn!

Sharon Mackey, Senior Finance & Grant Specialist, CEAE
Sharon Mackey is being nominated for the staff incentive award. Sharon recently passed the Certified Research Administrators exam after completing the first cohort of OCG’s Department Research Administrators 20-hour course. In Sharon’s 18 months in the department, Sharon has created new processes and streamlined accounting practices related to cash, revenues, and a wide variety of accounting practices. Now that the finance team is staffed, Sharon is now working on pro-active strategies for tracking research in an effort to reduce the “after-the-fact” PETs and JEs and to be responsive to the faculty and staff’s research-based inquiries. As a team, both she and Teresa are looking forward to launching parts of the research related tracking systems during FY 25. Sharon works tirelessly to provide accurate and thoughtful responses to all the department’s unique needs and she has become quite a detective in researching answers. She is an asset to the entire department, and we are fortunate to have her on the CEAE Finance team.

Teresa Hertzfeld, Senior Finance & Grant Specialist, CEAE
Teresa is being nominated for the Staff Incentive Award for all of her work and efforts within CEAE. Teresa recently completed OCG’s Department Research Administrators 20-hour course. In Teresa’s 18 months in the department, she has created new processes and streamlined accounting practices related to invoicing, tracking revenue and projects, and developed highly efficient spreadsheet database management for several of the department’s financial processes and practices. Her skills in high dollar commodity procurement and SOWs are second to none. With her finance teammates Teresa is working on proactive strategies for tracking research and creating databases to be responsive to the faculty and staff’s research-based inquiries. As a team, both she and Sharon are looking forward to launching parts of the research related tracking systems during FY 25. Teresa wrangles even the most complex questions and deep dives with calm and grace under pressure, she is a delight to work with and is an asset to the entire department, and we are fortunate to have her on the CEAE Finance team.
