Employee Recognition Award
The Employee Recognition Award recognizes outstanding classified and professional exempt staff.
- Bret Moreland, Laboratory and Facilities Coordinator, ECEE
Bret Moreland consistently performs exceptional work in his areas of responsibility – from moving extremely heavy, bulky million dollar pieces of equipment to repairing power electronics lab PV carts that constantly need repair, to finding and coordinating repairs of water leaks, power outages, malfunctioning AV equipment in classrooms, and so much more – Bret quietly and professionally goes about his work, ensuring that ECEE stakeholders can continue doing what they do best – teaching, learning, and conducting research. As one of our graduate students recently stated, “At this point in time, these buildings are held together by sheer will. Bret has been keeping the ECEE building together. If I visit the ECEE building 20 years from now I would like to see a statue of Bret as a dedication to those who kept this building working.â€
- Kimberly Low, Faculty Affairs Administrator and Assistant to the Chair, ECEE
As our Chief Happiness Officer, Kimberly Low exudes an extraordinary level of competence and good cheer. In addition to carrying out her responsibilities as the assistant to the chair and faculty HR administrator, this last year she has taken on both events planning and managing the front desk student assistants and handled these new additions with grace and aplomb. No matter how last minute the request, how inexplicable the situation, Kimberly’s can-do attitude, professionalism, and expertise result in successful outcomes every time!

Kendra played a critical role in the successful launch of EMP’s new ME in Engineering Management degree on Coursera. This required her to go above and beyond her job responsibilities as the academic and admission advisor (at that time) for close to a year. She helped lead the development of new processes and procedures for the Coursera student services side, such as advising, registration, degree & certificate completion audits, and information webinars. She assisted with ensuring all systems requirements were correctly in place, in addition to helping with marketing ventures and developing the new Coursera web pages. As usual, Kendra’s continual contribution to the EMP is exceptional.

This semester has seen a large increase in students requiring electronics support, and Lauren has provided that regardless of staffing shortages on the team. Lauren has taken a key role in multiple new initiatives such as leading the development of a PCB internship and planning the launch of cutting-edge additive circuit manufacturing equipment, in partnership with faculty in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
