Madison Lane, Operations and HR Support Coordinator in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering

Madison Lane
Madison (she/her) supports department personnel, faculty promotion and tenure, recruitment and onboarding, payroll, operation and logistical facilities management, student hiring and related assignments and projects directly supporting the department population.

I hail from the great state of Michigan but found my way down to the bayou (Baton Rouge, LA) for the past 4 years. While there, I worked at Louisiana State University in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. I loved the warm weather, rich culture, and nothing-too-small-to-celebrate attitude that Louisiana has (they love any reason to throw a party). I graduated from LSU with my Master of Business Administration in May 2021 and moved to Boulder, CO the following month. I’m incredibly excited to join the CU community and be a part of the CEAS team! I love being involved in my community and strive to leave things better than I found them, no matter how small. I enjoy connecting with nature, running, and learning about astronomy (Carl Sagan’s #1 fan!).

How are you getting involved and/or hoping to get involved within the CEAS community?

I have started attending Staff Council meetings and look forward to learning how to become more involved at the College-level as well as University-wide. I would love to serve on Staff Council in the future!

What is an ordinary moment in your life that brings you joy?

Going for walks at sunset – my favorite time of day!

What is a motto or quote that you hold dear and why?

“We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.” -Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture. We shouldn’t be defined by life’s greatest challenges, but how we overcome them or continue on in spite of them.

What has been your favorite work or personal project so far?

I had the honor of serving on LSU’s Staff Senate from 2019-2021 and it was a great way to serve my campus community and help make a difference. Two of my favorite projects were initiating the “Staff Stripes Award,” where anyone in the LSU community could nominate a staff member who they believe to be hard working and deserving of campus-wide recognition and appreciation. I also co-wrote Resolution 21-01, which highlighted staff’s recommendations to LSU in response to an independent Title IX report. We asked for clear communication, transparency, and consequences regarding how LSU handles Title IX violations as well as updated trainings, resources, support, and diversification of the Board of Supervisors to be more representative of our community. A very meaningful and impactful project.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Glacier National Park is my favorite place I’ve ever been and was the spot of my engagement a couple years ago. I find it to be one of the most beautiful and magical places I’ve seen.

What is your guilty pleasure?

TikTok and Dr Pepper – bonus if I get to enjoy both at the same time.
