Deb Prestianni, Human Resources Manager

Deb
Prior to joining CU Boulder, Deb worked as an administrative professional and supervisor in private law firms, telecommunications companies and higher education on the East Coast, where her experience in human resources began. Deb moved to Colorado in 2015 from Virginia and was previously at Colorado Law School for three years, supporting the dean and associate deans in faculty affairs, before joining the College of Engineering and Applied Science in August 2019. Deb is a strong advocate for lifelong education in all its forms, coming from a working class family. She moved to Colorado 4 years ago, and loves it much more than anywhere she has lived before on the East Coast of the US. Deb's personal interests are gardening, birdwatching, sewing/knitting, practicing French & Spanish, wine tasting & traveling.

What is your motto?

As long as you keep trying, it’s a victory!

What has been your favorite work or personal project so far?

Serving as co-Chair on the CU Boulder Staff Council this year and being a part of the University of Colorado Staff Council has been my favorite experience so far. I have learned a lot about CU Boulder and the University system while meeting so many interesting people. By being involved, this allows me to make connections with great people, gain knowledge about CU and be of service to our staff and community.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I always wanted to be an astronaut and really love science. During my spare time, I like to read about space and other scientific research and used to tutor high-school students.

Your coworkers can always count on you to . . .

I try to be fun and humorous! If anyone wants to learn about calligraphy, let me know. I used to have a side job writing wedding invitations.

Who was the most famous person you met and where?

I met Jay Leno at a party in Manhattan and he was a nice guy. He had such a fun personality and made you feel like you’ve known him for a long time.

What do you most like to do to unwind?

Gardening and playing Sudoku.
