About the King Awards:
In 2013, Gretchen King worked with the Department of Art and Art History to establish the King Competition and Exhibition, the department's first juried student exhibition. Since that time fellow alums, Meridee Moore (BA in Philosophy ‘80) and Kevin King (BFA in Fine Arts ‘81) have generously supported the annual competition and exhibition allowing the department to award undergraduate and graduate students monetary prizes and showcase their work in the Visual Arts Complex.Ìý
$3000 for first place Grad and Undergrad
$2500 for second place Grad and Undergrad
$2000 for thirdÌýplaceÌýGrad and Undergrad
AllÌýawards are based on artistic merit
Eight total work samples (images, video, soundwork) will be reviewed
The deadline for submission: February 22
Notifications of the award to students: March 13-18, 2021
Must be in a degree-seeking program (BA, BFA, MA, MFA) and enrolled in an ARTS (artÌýpractices) class or classesÌýthis school year (fall 2020/spring 2021)
Submit only work that is available to display and fully completed
Unfortunatley, proposals for new work and projects will not be considered
Award-winning artwork will be displayed both online and in the Visual Arts Complex:
A virtual showcase of all applicants and awardees will be featured on the art and art history website in conjunction with a curated, in-person exhibition featured at the Visual Arts Complex of the six award winners (3 grads, 3 undergrads).
Up to three images for each applicant will be displayed online, chosen atÌýthe discretion of the Art & Art History faculty and staff.
All forms of artwork will be considered but there might be limited ability to accommodate the installation needs of all work(s) due to space COVID restrictions A compilationÌýfeaturingÌýaward winning time-based artworksÌýwill be displayed
The student assumes the responsibility for any liability or damages to work on display
VAC Exhibition timeline:
Installation: March 26-April 4, 2021
Exhibition: April 5-11, 2021 (featuring three grad and three undergrad winners)
Deinstallation/Repair: April 12-18, 2021
