Peers Activating Leaders in Service (PALS)
Peers Activating Leaders in Service (PALS) foster community in Williams Village by serving as mentors for 3-5 Service and Social Action Living Learning Community (LLC) participants and supporting these students through their first year at CU Boulder. PALS build community by guiding students through service projects, organizing LLC-specific events and hosting reflection sessions.
In the beginning of the academic year, PALS lead the first-year service experience for LLC students in addition to various community building events. Throughout the rest of the year, PALS host various community events ranging from service-learning opportunities to study halls.
After the LLC participants complete their mentorship intake forms, the PALS are then paired with 3-5 students to serve as a mentor throughout the year. Based on their student’s availability and desire for support, PALS meet with their mentees on a regular basis, with a minimum expectation of once a month. Throughout the mentorship program, PALS assist students in their transition to college, help them build community, explore areas of interest within academic and personal life, and support them in succeeding in their courses.

“Being a PAL has been such an incredible experience. I have gained strong leadership skills by helping lead one of the first-year service experiences along with my fellow PALS. The connections I have made with my mentees have been so fulfilling. I talk with my mentees weekly, sharing my experience as a student and supporting them through their first year of college. It makes me feel special knowing someone looks up to me for support.” - Meghan Fall, PALS mentor 2023-24
"For me, being a PAL is about having the opportunity to grow my leadership skills, build community and explore the parts of service that I love most. I have enjoyed bringing the LLC students and Will Vill community together by hosting events such as the blanket and card decorating events and late-night mentee meet-ups. Having the opportunity to show first-year students what makes service special and helping them get involved on campus has been one of the defining moments of my college experience. I highly recommend becoming a PAL if you are interested in making an impact on students’ lives.” - Cody Campos, PALS mentor 2023-24
