Keck Foundation Donates $1.5 Million To CU-Boulder Center For Ultracold Molecular Research

The W.M. Keck Foundation of Los Angeles has donated $1.5 million to establish the W.M. Keck Center for Ultracold Molecular Research at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Chancellor Richard L. Byyny announced today. "This center will build on CU-Boulder's existing strength in atomic, molecular and optical physics," said Chancellor Byyny. "It will enhance the links between the programs of some of our most outstanding researchers and provide outstanding opportunities for training students and post-doctoral research associates in pioneering science."

Poudre High School Wins Regional Ocean Sciences Bowl Contest Hosted At CU-Boulder

Poudre High School of Fort Collins sailed to its second consecutive victory in the regional Ocean Sciences Bowl on Saturday, March 1, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The team edged out its nearest competitor, Boulder High School, for the regional championship.

Chemistry Of Light Topic Of CU Wizards March 15 Show

The origin of light will be explained through a number of experiments during the Saturday, March 15, CU Wizards show "The Chemistry of Light." Kathy Rowlen, a chemistry and biochemistry professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140. The show, aimed at students in grades five through nine, is free and open to the public.

Disney Empire Is Focus Of March 6 CU Lecture

Janet Wasko, professor of communication research at the University of Oregon, will present "Dazzled by Disney?" at the Crosman Memorial Lecture on Thursday, March 6, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The presentation at 5 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 150 is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and is free and open to the public. A reception will be held in the lobby following the lecture.

Student Photography Exhibit To Open At CU Heritage Center

The University of Colorado Heritage Center will celebrate the opening of a new temporary exhibit "Institutionalized: Student Life Through Student Eyes" with a reception on Friday, March 14. The reception from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of Old Main is free and open to the public. The exhibit features 30 black-and-white photographs of CU-Boulder life taken by a group of undergraduate photojournalism students over a six-month period. They explore such topics as academia, social and political life, housing, sports and sexuality.

CU-Boulder To Maintain Scheduled Spring Break Dates

Spring break at the University of Colorado at Boulder will continue according to schedule in 2004 and 2005, as recommended by the CU-Boulder Council of Deans. This year's spring break for campus students and faculty will occur March 24-28 on a schedule set five years in advance.

CU-Boulder Gears Up For 2003 Summer Session With Faculty From Around The World

Offered for the first time last year, FIRST brings world-class faculty to the Boulder campus to teach and to forge relationships with their respective departments. CU-Boulder And CIRES Host Saturday Regional Ocean Sciences Bowl

Twenty-three student teams from 13 Colorado and Wyoming high schools will gather at the University of Colorado at Boulder Saturday, March 1, to compete in the fifth regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl.

Sports Illustrated Writer Rick Reilly To Speak At CU-Boulder On March 11

Rick Reilly, the well-known Sports Illustrated writer and author, will give a public talk at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Tuesday, March 11. Reilly, who will be on campus as a guest of the World Affairs Athenaeum, will speak at 3 p.m. in the University Memorial Center Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public. A CU-Boulder alumnus, Reilly has been a writer at Sports Illustrated since 1985. He started his writing career working for the Daily Camera, Denver Post and Los Angeles Times, before moving on to Sports Illustrated.
