CU Boulder invites the campus community to review and provide feedback on the newly drafted by Wednesday, May 15, before its final consideration by the campus chancellors and the president. The proposed effective dateÌýis July 1.
The move to a systemwide policy brings alignment and additional clarity to campus policy without impacting the scope, designation, jurisdiction, and responsibilities of the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (OIEC), in addressing policy-related issues and responsible employee’s obligation to report.
This initiative is led by Valerie Simons, vice president of compliance and equity for the CU system. Over the past year, a systemwide group of representatives from each campus equity office, including OIEC, and the office of University Counsel has been working to draft APS 5065.
The working group shared initial drafts with other campus constituents and is now proceeding with a review process through the system . This process includes additional engagement with students, faculty, staff, campus governance groupsÌýand external stakeholders.
The drafting of APS 5065 aims to unify three campus nondiscrimination policies to provide consistent definitions for discrimination, harassment/hostile environment, retaliation, related violationsÌýand protected classes with the following goals in mind:
- Incorporating new
- Ensuring compliance with recent changes to state law
- Clarifying nondiscrimination provisions
- Offering guidance and resources for reporting options and confidential resources
- Outlining the role and jurisdiction of Equity Offices
Community feedback is essential to refining APS 5065, and the CU Boulder community is encouraged to contribute their thoughts by the Wednesday, May 15, deadline. The feedback will be considered by the Office of Policy and Efficiency and shared with university leadership and the systemwide working group before the final presentation to the chancellors and the president.
