Global cement production accounts for 7% of annual greenhouse gas emissions. Now, a CU Boulder-led research team has figured out a way to make cement production carbon neutral—and even carbon negative—by pulling carbon dioxide out of the air with the help of microalgae.

Scientists at LongPath Technologies, a startup spun out of CU Boulder, are using the company's Nobel Prize-winning tech to do what other technologies have struggled to do for years: detect natural gas, which is invisible to the eye, leaking from pipes in real time at oil and gas sites across Colorado.
