My research interests tend to revolve around two areas: Contact Linguistics and Sociolinguistics. Within sociolinguistics, my interest revolves around Linguistic Anthropology and the Ethnography of Speaking. As such, I focus on the discursive practices of Trinidad English Creole speakers, and the social realities that are affirmed/discursively constructed when a speaker decides to use—or not use—this Creole. Additionally, I am especially interested in the kinds of insight that quantitative analysis and “thick ethnography” can provide when describing the interaction of linguistic and social factors.
