Travel Arrangements
Invited speakers are encouraged to coordinate travel arrangements through the Colloquium Travel Coordinator. Airline tickets and/or lodging accommodations coordinated through CU will be direct-billed to the University; all other travel-related expenses shall be reimbursed as outlined below.
International visitors: Please contact the Colloquium TravelCoordinator for information required for reimbursements prior to travel. Please be aware that there are tax consequences for non-compliance with required procedures. All international visitors must enter the US on a business visa and provide supporting documents.
Covered/Reimbursed Expenses
Round Trip Airfare to/from Denver
To book a flight directly through CU, contact the Colloquium Travel Coordinator with your preferred airline, itinerary or dates/times of travel, and any special considerations. A Travel Authorization will be issued and the Coordinator will work with the University travel agent to generate a draft itinerary, which will only be booked once approved by the traveler. The expense will be direct-billed to CU.
Ground Transportation to/from Boulder
Our ground transportation options between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Boulder are as below.
Option 1:
The RTD SkyRide, AB Bus, provides a direct connection from the airport to Boulder. The bus leaves from Transit Center 20 minutes after each hour (sometimes twice per hour) and the ride takes approximately one hour (see schedule for details). Domestic arrivals is located in the center of the main terminal on level 5. International arrival is located at the north end of the terminal. Baggage claim is also located on level 5. To get to Denver Airport Station, follow the signs to the Transit Center and proceed to the south exit on level 5 (look for the large American flag), exit the terminal through the sliding glass doors and take the escalator located in the center of the plaza down to level 1. You can pay for the SkyRide service with exact cash ($10) when you board or purchase a one-way ticket at a light rail ticket vending machine. Please retain your receipt for reimbursement.
The bus ride takes approximately one hour. If you would like to go directly to the Physics building, please exit at Broadway & Euclid Ave (University of Colorado) stop. From the stop, it is about a 5–8-minute walk to Duane Physics.
If you prefer to go directly to the hotel, please exit at Broadway & Pleasant St. The Moxy is just a minute’s walk from the bus stop.
Option 2: Uber / Lyft / Taxi
This option is self-explanatory. Please retain receipts for reimbursement.
Option 3:
The schedule can be accessed via the link above. Shuttles depart from DIA 30-35 minutes after the hour.
At the Denver International Airport, the Eight Black Airport Shuttle picks up passengers on Level 5 (Main Level/ Baggage Claim Level), between Doors 507 and 509, Island 5, beneath the “Special Permit” signs. This is on the East (BLUE) side of the Terminal. Door 507 is next to baggage carousels #3.
If you prefer this option, you can purchase a ticket for $62 each way via link, or I can pre-book the reservation for you. Please advise if you prefer the shuttle to deliver you directly to the Physics building, or your hotel.
Lodging
Contact the Colloquium Travel Coordinator with your travel dates and any special considerations. A hotel reservation will be made for you at the Moxy Boulder (subject to availability). You will receive a confirmation number and the hotel address/contact information from the Colloquium Travel Coordinator. The room expense will be direct-billed to CU.
Meals
Any meals not provided by a local host (up to eligible per diem) will be reimbursed.
Please note: Any other travel-related expenses not listed here will require approval by the Colloquium Travel Coordinator before being considered for reimbursement.
Directions from DIA to Boulder
If you rent a car, the driving time between DIA and Boulder is approximately 60 to 90 minutes. From DIA, follow Peña Boulevard (10 miles) south to I-70, and exit onto I-70 west. Follow I-70 west to I-270 west. I-270 merges into U.S. 36 west and takes you west into Boulder (about 23 miles). U.S. 36 turns into 28th Street in Boulder.
Submitting for Reimbursement
