Resources for Undergraduates
The American Philosophical Association (APA) is the professional organization for philosophy in the US. They have published numerous guides for undergraduates, organized in three sections: (1) Why study philosophy? Numerous guides from departments around the country on why one should major in philosophy. (2) Resources and opportunities for undergraduates, and (3) A guide to your options after graduating with a philosophy degree — including a guide to graduate programs in philosophy, and a guide to career options after graduation “Beyond Academia: Professional Opportunities for Philosophers”, which we highly recommend.
There are a number of Diversity Institutes which are intended to encourage undergraduates from underrepresented groups who are thinking of careers in philosophy. Many of these Diversity Institutes are fully funded, and cover all costs for students to travel and attend; they feature professors from top universities around the country. We encourage you to look into these if you are interested.
