About Us

The Center for Experiments on Quantum Materials (CEQM) studies new materials with emergent quantum properties. The center combines the expertise of its fellows in materials synthesis, characterization, and control of quantum phases through novel experimental techniques. Center participants include the University of Colorado and neighboring institutions along the Colorado Front Range including Colorado State University, Colorado School of Mines, NIST, and NREL.

Specific research interests include but are not limited to superconductivity, magnetism, correlated and spin-orbit-coupled materials, Weyl and Dirac semimetals, and nanostructured materials with quantum confinement in 3D (quantum dots), 2D (graphene and more recent materials), and 1D (nanowires and polymers), and related phenomena.

The emphasis is on materials that have the potential to display a rapid transition from fundamental science to applications in electronics, photonics, energy, and biophysics/biomedicine, and other areas.
