During and after your trip
Follow these health and safety tips
- Stretch or walk during long flights to prevent blood clots
- Wash hands often or use hand sanitizer to avoid illness and diarrhea
- Leave expensive clothing, jewelry, and electronics at home
- If confronted, put your personal safety first: remain calm, and give up replaceable items (like a passport)
- Use caution in crowded areas where robberies may be common
- Stick to well-lit main roads whenever possible
- Use condoms with all partners to minimize STI risk
- Stay aware of your surroundings, especially if consuming alcohol
- Use only registered, well-signed taxis and transportation services
After your trip
Ask your provider which medical considerations apply:
- Complete any vaccination series as needed
- See your provider for a TB test three months after you return
- If you were in a country with malaria risk and develop a fever, seek medical attention immediately
