Graduation Deadlines
October 1
Graduate students must聽apply online to graduate聽through聽buff portal聽on the 鈥渁pply for graduation鈥� card in order to have the degree awarded in December. This is required even though there is no university-wide ceremony. PhD students must enter their dissertation title as part of the online graduation application; you may update the title through the portal until this date. This title will appear on your transcript after your degree is awarded.
October 2
Master's students must submit to the Graduate School a聽Candidacy Application for an Advanced Degree. Applications follow a workflow process and must be approved by the academic department before they are directed to the Graduate School.

Successful and replicable programs for promoting inclusive excellence in STEM
Sept. 26, 1 鈥� 2 p.m.聽 Student Recreation Center 鈥� Ice Rink Overlook Conference Space
During this hour-long talk, Mike Summers, a chemistry professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will reflect on the Meyerhoff Scholars Program, a nationally recognized model for increasing retention and academic performance of underrepresented minority undergraduates in STEM and for preparing those undergraduates to pursue and succeed in graduate and professional programs. He will also discuss efforts to reproduce this program at other universities that have been similarly successful, and what lessons can be learned.

Did you ever listen to a presentation that was poorly delivered, where you felt you were wasting your time? It happens, and when it does, you don't want to be the speaker doing the delivery. In this workshop we will compare the same talk when presented in two different ways and use this comparison to get clarity on the do's and don'ts of oral presentations. After attending this workshop, you know the importance of telling鈥攁nd repeating鈥攁 story, the basics of effective use and design of slides, and how to use your voice and body for a compelling delivery.

Writing a Literature Review can be challenging. Where do you start? Where do you stop? This workshop provides attendees with no-nonsense and clear advice about how to prepare for and how to maintain financial success. Financial advisor and CSU faculty member, Brad Sparks, will provide information on accounts, methods for saving, considerations for when investing that relate to the needs of individual graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.聽
