Teaching

Prof. Bosanac teaches the following courses:

ASEN 5050: Spaceflight Dynamics

Fall 2017, Fall 2018, Fall 2019, Spring 2021, Fall 2021, Spring 2023, Fall 2023, Fall 2024

Introduction to astrodynamics for students with an interest in trajectory design and maneuver planning, missionÌýorbit selection, orbital transfer design and rendezvous. Topics covered include: solutions to the two-body problem and their characteristics, perturbations, initial orbitÌýdetermination, relative motion, orbital transfers, low-thrust trajectories, groundtracks, interplanetary trajectories.ÌýÂ鶹ÒùÔºÌýlearn to use industry-standard astrodynamicsÌýsoftware, choosing between: AGI'sÌýSTK and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center'sÌýGMAT.

ASEN 6060: Advanced Astrodynamics

Fall 2020, Fall 2022, Spring 2024

This course focuses on the complex gravitational environment of multi-body systems, often approximated by the circular restrictedÌýthree-body problem. This course coversÌýthe computation and characterization of space trajectories, computation of fundamental dynamical structures (e.g., equilibrium points, periodic orbits and hyperbolic invariant manifolds), stability analysis, applications of dynamical systems theory to visualizing and analyzing the solutions space and transfer design.ÌýÂ鶹ÒùÔº also learn to ccreate trajectories in an ephemeris model of a multi-body systemÌýwithin industry-standard astrodynamicsÌýsoftware, choosing between: Ansys'sÌýSatellite ToolKit (STK)Ìýand NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT).

ASEN 3200/3700: Orbit Mechanics / Attitude Dynamics and Control

Spring 2017, Spring 2018, Spring 2019, Spring 2020, Fall 2022, Spring 2024

Presents the fundamentals of orbital mechanics, 3D rigid body dynamics and satellite attitude dynamics and controls. Course consists of both lectures and labs: attitude dynamics labs consists of hands-on experiments conducted on hardware, and orbit mechanics labs involve using STK and Matlab for simulation of spacecraft motion in complex dynamical environments.

ASEN 3801:ÌýAerospace Vehicles Dynamics and Controls Lab

Spring 2024

Emphasizes applications of engineering dynamics and control principles for modeling, simulating, designing, analyzing, and evaluating aerospace vehicle systems. Experimental and computational focus on problems in aircraft flight stabilization and spacecraft attitude control.

ASEN 2003: Introduction to Dynamics and Systems

Spring 2022

Introduces the principles of particle and planar rigid body dynamics, systems, and controls. Topics include kinematics, kinetics, momentum and energy methods, system modeling, and simple feedback control. Class includes experimental and design laboratory exercises for aerospace applications of dynamic principles.
