E&ER has conducted research and evaluation studies of undergraduate research programs and other experiential education at the college level. Our extensive qualitative research work has informed the development of the Undergraduate Research Student Self-Assessment (URSSA), an online instrument for use in evaluating student outcomes of undergraduate research experiences in the sciences.

Our studies have documented the outcomes of undergraduate research programs and explored their impact on the recruitment and retention of students from underrepresented groups. Other work has demonstrated the benefits of other forms of experiential education for students in the sciences.
