The Center for Values and Social Policy in the Philosophy Department at the University of Colorado, Boulder is pleased to invite paper proposals for the eleventh annual RoME congress.听 Papers from all areas of ethics and political theory are invited.听

Awards and Support

To encourage participation of junior scholars, as well as scholarship in underrepresented branches of ethics, the University of Colorado offers five targeted awards. Applicants may submit their paper to as many prizes as they are eligible, though please be sure to read the eligibility criteria:

• First, as we have for over ten years, we award the Young Ethicist Prize (YEP) of $500 for most meritorious submission.听 The prize competition is open to any participating untenured philosopher (including, but not limited to, tenure-track faculty, instructors, and graduate students).
• Second, since 2017 we have been awarding the Minorities and Philosophy Ethicist Prize (MAP) of $500 for the most meritorious submission on a topic that addresses a moral, social, political, or legal question or set of questions (i) relating to issues in the profession regarding members of under-represented groups, (ii) regarding philosophy of gender, race, sexual orientation, class, disability, native language, etc. or (iii) addressing normative philosophical questions from an under-represented group perspective.
• Third and fourth, RoME is pleased to announce the availability of two $500 stipends to support graduate student travel for those working in Analytically-informed Applied Ethics of Technology (TEP). These stipends, made possible by an anonymous donation, are intended to support travel for graduate students who would not otherwise be able to present their exemplary work at the conference.
• Fifth, Public Affairs Quarterly and the Center for Values and Social Policy鈥檚 Rocky Mountain Ethics Congress (RoME) are pleased to announce the first annual Public Affairs Essay Prize (PAP).听 This $500 prize will be awarded for the most meritorious submission to the 2018 Rocky Mountain Ethics Congress in any area of practical/applied normative philosophy, broadly understood to include work on issues of public concern in practical/applied moral, social, political, and legal philosophy.听 The awards committee will include the Editor of Public Affairs Quarterly and several members of the journal鈥檚 Editorial Board. All submissions for the prize will simultaneously be considered for publication in the journal unless they are already under review elsewhere, but entry in the competition does not commit the author to having their paper published in the journal if the journal offers to publish it and they prefer to submit it elsewhere.听 This competition is open to anyone who has a paper on an eligible topic accepted at RoME.听 Full paper submissions for this prize must be submitted by June 15 and should be sent to david.boonin@colorado.edu.听 Further details about the scope of the topics covered by the journal, and thus by the competition, can be found at .

Deadlines

Submission of abstracts: March 1, 2018.
Notification of acceptance: Sometime in May, 2018.
Full paper submission for Young Ethicist Prize Consideration: June 15, 2018.

Format:

• Abstracts only (750-1000 words).听 Shorter or longer abstracts will not be accepted.
• Double spaced, prepared for blind-review. (Anticipate full papers at half-hour reading time or 4500 words, whichever is shorter.)
• In order to be considered for the Young Ethicist Prize, complete papers must be submitted by June 1, 2018 and abstracts must have already been accepted for participation.听 Announcement of a winner will be made at the event.
• Indicate in your submission whether you would consider being a commentator on another paper, should your paper not be accepted to the conference for presentation.
