Parenting is critical to children’s development and yet is often challenging, even under the best of circumstances. The demands of parenting have been exacerbated in the context of COVID-19, which has amplified a sense of loneliness and social isolation among parents. The Colorado Lullaby Project is a partnership between the College of Music and the Crown Institute that aims to counteract the loneliness and isolation that many parents are currently experiencing. In this project, groups of parents meet through videoconference to collaborate virtually with student musicians, each creating a personal lullaby for their child. Following the lullaby creation session, student musicians collaborate to create finalized, polished recordings of the lullabies, which parents then share with family and friends. This project focuses on the role that music can play in enhancing social connection among parents, children, and communities. We are conducting this project as a multidisciplinary collaboration with key community partners, including Boulder Community Health and the Children’s Hospital of Colorado.
