Dr. Chris Johanson
Department of Classics, UCLA
Monday, November 5, 2018
5:30 PM in HUMN 250
This presentation examines the ways that the Roman funeral eulogy subverts traditionally understood priorities for Latin oratorical argumentation.Ìý Through a combination of close and distant reading, Dr. Johanson explores nearly every funeral attested during the Roman Republic.Ìý The goal is twofold: 1) to reveal the primacy of visual and visible evidence; and 2) to posit a new model for interpreting funerary performance in the Roman Forum.
The presentation will showcase a suite of projects developed in a technology ecosystem that comprises a Unity3D + Drupal presentation layer, a multi-player avatar system, ESRI ArcMap and CityEngine, an application of Linked Open Data, SketchUp, and Wordpress.
This event is sponsored by the Graduate Committee on the Arts & the Humanities, the Center for Wester Civilization, Thought & Policy, the Department of History and, the Department of Classics.
