About the CHA
The Center for Humanities & the Arts (CHA) offers annual fellowships and grants to faculty Իgraduate students, supports interdisciplinary initiatives, co-sponsors events in departments across campus, and brings prominent humanists and artists to campus for public lectures, workshops, and panel discussions. With the help of its distinguished Community Advisory BoardԻ Faculty Steering Committee, the CHA seeks to organize events in which faculty, students, and the community can exchange ideas and learn from one another.

How the CHA defines 'humanities':
The CHA uses the National Endowment for the Humanities' definition of humanities (see below):
“The term ‘humanities’ includes, but is not limited to, the study of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life.”
The humanities and the arts have a special role to play in our out to our constituency, for they are not only the objects of scholar study and practice on campus, but also shape our common reservoir of ideas, experiences, and aspirations.
