The Center for Western Civilization, Thought & Policy will host Swedish Parliament Member Mattias Karlsson on Feb. 25, for his lecture "National Conservatives and Traditional Conservatives: A Call for Unity." Karlsson will dissect the two different brands of conservatism that exist in the West today and highlight how conflicting parties can collaborate to reach a common goal.

Karlsson's lecture will delve into the two different brands of western conservatism. He argues that traditional conservatives advocate for small government and robust free markets, while national conservatives champion for border security and cultural preservation. Karlsson believes that both of these conservative camps are natural allies and must unite and work towards collaboration.

Karlsson has been a Member of the Swedish Parliament since 2010. He represents the Swedish Democrats, the socially conservative and third largest political party of Sweden. Karlsson currently serves as the Leader of the Sweden Democrats in the Riksdag, the national legislature of Sweden, and has served in that position since 2014.  Karlsson formally served as the Leader of the Swedish Democratic Party from 2014-2015.

Â鶹ÒùÔº, faculty, and members of the public are encouraged to attend the lecture. The scheduled presentation will take place in Eaton Humanities, room 250, beginning at 5:30 pm. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session and a small reception and will wrap around 7:30 pm. .
