Summer Session Appointment Basics
- Summer Session is different from the Academic Year.
- Faculty appointments have different salary rates, FTE and % than in the academic year. The salary, FTE and % of time for summer faculty appointments are located in Tables at the bottom of the College of Arts and Sciences Summer Session page.
- Faculty generally should not teach more than one course per term. If your department wishes to request an exception, please contact Patrick Tally (Patrick.Tally@colorado.edu).
- Graduate student faculty appointments are an additional job that is distinct from an academic year position. Rates are available on the Summer Session Payment Memo. The memo can be accessed through the Academic Affairs Summer Info.
- For standard Faculty, GPTI and TA letters: Departments create and submit A&S Summer Spreadsheet to CAS-Faculty@colorado.edu for review. CAS-Faculty creates offer letters and routes in DocuSign.
- For standard Grader letters: Departments create and submit A&S Summer Spreadsheet to CAS-Faculty@colorado.edu for review. CAS-Faculty creates offer letters and routes in DocuSign. If a department would like verification that a specific course is eligible for a grader, the Program Assistant can contact Patrick Tally (patrick.tally@colorado.edu) for grader pre-approval. After receiving grader pre-approval, the Department must submit a A&S Summer Spreadsheet after the appropriate session’s last day to drop without penalty date.
- For faculty appointments not funded by Summer Session speedtypes: Departments create and submit offer letters using the regular Fall or Spring semester faculty offer letter process.
- For one-off situations such as special salary permissions, exception to one-course-per-term rule, or split appointments: Departments create offer letters and submit to CAS-Faculty@colorado.edu. CAS-Faculty reviews and routes offer letters in DocuSign.
- Departments create additional jobs for exempt professional and research faculty offer letters and submit to CAS-Faculty@colorado.edu. CAS-Faculty reviews and routes offer letters in DocuSign.
