Bachelor of Fine Arts Program

The BFA degree in Art Practices is a more specialized degree in studio art.ÌýIt allows you to take a higher number of courses through the Art & Art History Department.ÌýChoose this degree if you like to make art at an intense level.ÌýChoose this degree if you want to create a personal portfolio, attend graduate school, want a career directly related to the arts, or are interested in pursuing a teaching career at the college level.ÌýRequirements include 63 credits of ARTS & ARTH coursework, passing a BFA Portfolio review, completing lower-division required courses, taking the BFA Seminar class and a recommended GPA of 3.0 within Art & Art History.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree program offers advanced studio study to a limited number of highly motivated and talented students.ÌýThe BFA student may choose one area of studio emphasis or an interdisciplinary focus where two or three studio areas are represented.ÌýAdmission will be l limited not only in terms of capacity but also to ensure the type of record, motivation and the passing of a portfolio review.ÌýUpon failure to pass a second BFA Portfolio Review, students will complete a BASA degree.
Eligible students must have completed 30 hours of Art & Art History credit.Ìý It is strongly recommended for students to apply before reaching 45 credits in the major.

Honors
Deadline: October 4, 2022
Undergraduates that the deadline for filing for graduation with Honors in Spring 2023 in either Art Practices or Art History is Tuesday, October 4.
To graduate with Honors, you should have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA. The faculty representative to contact regarding filing for Honors is Marina Kassianidou for Art Practices (marina.kassianidou@colorado.edu) or Robert Nauman for Art History (robert.nauman@colorado.edu). Graduation with Honors does require an additional studio project or art history thesis project.
A reminder to students who are eligible to graduate with Honors and will not graduate until 2023-24 you should contact the faculty representative this academic year. By doing so, they may also apply for UROP funding (up to $3000. for summer 2023 research) in support of their thesis work.
Graduating with an Honors designation is something that appears on your resume throughout your life, and is valuable not only in applying to graduate school but also in pursuing a career in the discipline.
