CU-Boulder Maps Out Plan For Geography Week

The Colorado Geographic Alliance, based in the geography department at the University of Colorado at Boulder, is giving every Colorado school a packet of teaching materials in observance of Geography Awareness Week Nov. 16 through Nov. 22. The teaching materials were produced by the Alliance and the National Geographic Society. This year’s theme for the week is “Explore the World: Geography Takes You Places.”

CU Names Two Distinguished Professors

Two well-known faculty members at the University of Colorado at Boulder were named Distinguished Professors Thursday, Nov. 13, by the CU Board of Regents. Richard McCray, professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences, and Charles Wilkinson, professor of law, received the prestigious designation in Denver during a monthly meeting of the Board of Regents.

CU-Boulder Holds Symposium On Building A Diverse Campus

The symposium will feature a variety of diversity issues concerning the campus and other communities, and will include a video teleconference at 11 a.m. titled, “Race Relations in Higher Education: A Prescription for Empowerment and Progress.”

Suspect Arrested In Campus Assault

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a recent assault on an 18-year-old male student at the University of Colorado at Boulder near the Williams Village residence hall complex. LaMarcus Jenkins, 20, of Denver turned himself in to Denver police following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the CU Police Department Thursday, Nov. 6. CU detectives executed a search warrant for JenkinsÂ’ residence at about 6 p.m. The suspect was not at home when officers appeared at the residence, but came to Denver police headquarters at about 10 p.m.

CU-Boulder Physician Says Flu Shot Is The Best Bet

It’s the flu, and Wardenberg Health Center physician Jim Schlegel of the University of Colorado at Boulder advises people to get immunized against it. “Someone may be in bed for three days, flat out, having to be nearly fed by someone willing enough to do that,” Schlegel says of the severity of the flu.

Bensons Donate $3 Million For Endowed Chair

A new endowed chair in petroleum geology has been established at the University of Colorado at Boulder, funded by a gift of $3 million from Bruce and Marcy Benson, according to Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. Byyny made the surprise announcement during the dedication ceremony for the Benson Earth Sciences Building Oct. 30 on the Boulder campus.
