Survivors of the Holocaust are among the featured speakers scheduled to appear during the 22nd annual Holocaust Awareness Week at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Feb. 6-10. Keynote speakers, academic and guest presenters will participate at various locations on the CU-Boulder campus. All events are free and open to the public. Scholars To Discuss Academic Freedom At CU Conference Feb. 3-4

Examining why academic freedom is often a source of controversy on college campuses across the nation will be the cornerstone of the University of Colorado at Boulder's 13th Ira C. Rothgerber Jr. Conference to be held Feb. 3-4 in the Fleming Law Building. Titled "Horowitz, Churchill, Columbia -- What Next for Academic Freedom?" the conference will address the theory and practice of academic freedom from the perspective of several controversial disputes.

Associate Professor Anita Heiss of Macquarie University in Sydney will present a talk on "Indigenous Australia: A Contemporary Snapshot" on Monday, Jan. 30, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Heiss' lecture will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the University Memorial Center ballroom and is co-sponsored by the CU-Boulder Office of International Education and AustraLearn, a study abroad organization. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Blue Ribbon Commission Issues Preliminary Recommendations on Diversity

Members of the University of Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity issued 10 preliminary recommendations today designed to enhance diversity at the Boulder campus. Its unanimous vote came at the end of a full-day meeting of the commission in the University Memorial Center at CU-Boulder.

Reagan White House Science Adviser To Speak At CU-Boulder Jan. 31

George Keyworth II, White House science adviser to former President Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1986, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building. The free, public event is part of a yearlong lecture series titled "Policy, Politics and Science in the White House: Conversations with Presidential Science Advisers," sponsored by CU-Boulder's Center for Science and Technology Policy Research.

CU-Boulder Dean Becomes President Of National Association Of Schools Of Music

Daniel Sher, dean of the University of Colorado at Boulder College of Music, has been named president of the National Association of Schools of Music. Sher had been the association's vice president, but assumed leadership of the association Jan. 1 after outgoing president Karen Wolff resigned for family health reasons. Sher will serve as president through the association's annual meeting in November, at which time he can be elected for a full term.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Professor Timothy Pauketat will give a lecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder Saturday, Jan. 28, on an explosion of cultural complexity 1,000 years ago from a city known as Cahokia near present-day St. Louis.
