CU's Modern Indian Identity Series To Feature Phil Deloria On April 16

University of Michigan Professor Phil Deloria will lecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder April 16 as part of a Center of the American West series aimed at improving understanding between Indians and non-Indians. The talk, "Crossing the (Indian) Color Line: A Family Memoir," is part of the Modern Indian Identity lecture series and is free and open to the public. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 250 on the Boulder campus.

New CU Law Building Earns Top Environmental Ranking

The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded the Wolf Law Building on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus a gold rating, one of the nation's highest for green building design. The recently completed 180,000-square-foot building earned the gold rating under the Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, or LEED. David Getches, dean of the University of Colorado Law School, said it was the first publicly supported law school in the nation to "get gold."

New CU Study Shows Intensive Therapy Helps In Battle Against Bipolar Disorder

New results from the largest federally funded bipolar study ever conducted show that patients who receive psychotherapy in addition to medication get better faster from bipolar disorder's debilitating depression and stay better longer, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder researcher involved in the study.

Two CU-Boulder Programs Ranked In Nation's Top 10 In 2007 U.S. News Grad School Rankings

Two University of Colorado at Boulder graduate specialty programs were ranked in the top 10 nationally in a new but limited U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings report scheduled for release March 30. The CU-Boulder School of Law's environmental law specialty program was ranked fourth in the nation in 2007, up five spots from 2006, while the specialty program of physical chemistry ranked 10th in the country. Magazine officials said expanded specialty rankings for selected disciplines would be released on March 30.

Study Finds Antidepressants Provide No Added Benefit For Patients With Bipolar Disorder

UCDHSC news release Psychiatric researchers at both the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center and the University of Colorado at Boulder took part in a $26.8 million, 22-center study across the United States between 1998 and 2005 that looked at medication effectiveness in patients with bipolar disorder.

CU-Boulder Music, Art Festival Honors Late Vice Chancellor; India.Arie To Perform In Concert

A new festival named in honor of Ofelia Miramontes, the late associate vice chancellor who promoted diversity at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will pay tribute to the contributions women have made to music and art. The Miramontes Music and Arts Festival will take place April 2 through April 6 on the CU-Boulder campus. Activities will take place at various campus venues and will include panel discussions, a film screening, an interactive mural and a breakdancing workshop. The festival is planned to be held annually.

A growing interest in Asian languages, cultures and geopolitics - from the booming economies of China and India to troubled hot spots in North Korea and the Middle East - has prompted a University of Colorado at Boulder center to expand its course offerings to undergraduate and graduate students. Professor Laurel Rasplica Rodd, director of the CU-Boulder Center for Asian Studies, said students began taking Hindi classes this academic year and that Farsi and Indonesian classes would be offered starting next fall.
