CU Researcher Wins Grant To Study How Children With Implanted Hearing Devices Respond To Sound, Language

A University of Colorado at Boulder researcher has won a $50,000 federal seed grant for work that could one day lead to the development of clinically useful and less invasive ways of studying the brain activity of children who wear implanted hearing devices. Such research could help doctors and researchers gain a greater understanding of how children acquire hearing and language skills.

Two CU-Boulder Scientists Elected To Prestigious National Academies

Two University of Colorado at Boulder physics professors have been elected to two of the most prestigious national academies for scientists. CU-Boulder physics Professor Noel Clark was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and Deborah Jin, an adjoint associate professor of physics at CU-Boulder and a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

CU-Boulder's Glenn Miller Archive Receives Major Gift Including Seldom-Heard Music

The University of Colorado at Boulder's extensive and well-known archive of 1930s and 1940s big band-era great Glenn Miller just got better with the addition of a major collection of artifacts from the estate of the late Richard C. March. A longtime member of the Glenn Miller Society in England, March's collection includes numerous reels of Miller recordings, as well as books, manuscripts, records, photographs and posters of the famed musician. March died in November 2005.

First African-American Woman Earns Physics Doctorate At CU-Boulder

In a University of Colorado at Boulder physics lab recently, Martha-Elizabeth "Marty" Baylor popped a pair of rose-colored goggles over her eyes and lowered her head under the glass of a laser system she uses to conduct optical research. Among other challenges, Baylor, a JILA research assistant and graduate student, is working on a riddle scientists call the "cocktail party problem."

CU-Boulder Professors Awarded Guggenheim, Sloan Research Fellowships

Two University of Colorado at Boulder professors have been awarded Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowships for 2007 and a third has received a Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship. The Guggenheim recipients are Professor Paul Kroll of the East Asian languages and civilizations department and Professor Mark Winey of the molecular, cellular and developmental biology department. Kroll and Winey were among 189 fellows nationwide selected from more than 2,800 applicants.
