'Fulbright Meet and Greet'

The International English Center will host a "meet and greet" to introduce the scholars to the CU Boulder campus community.

  • Who: Fulbright scholars and CU Boulder community
  • What: "Meet and Greet"
  • When: Tuesday, July 18, 5–7 p.m.
  • Where: Continuing Education Building, great room, 1505 University Ave., Boulder, CO 80302
  • RSVP: Carolyn Allen at carolyn.allen@colorado.edu

The Fulbright Pre-Academic Program is administered by the Institute of International Education and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs as part of its flagship Fulbright Program.

From July 15 to Aug. 5, the Fulbright scholars will be at CU Boulder refining their academic, English language and research skills; learning about the U.S. higher education system; and engaging in cultural enrichment activities. After completing the Fulbright Pre-Academic Program, the scholars will depart to universities around the U.S. to begin master’s and PhD programs.

In addition to language and academic skills courses, the program will feature workshops and presentations leveraging the expertise of CU Boulder faculty and staff from University Libraries, the Graduate School, Colorado Law, the Writing Center, ODECE, and A&S Academic Advising and Coaching, among others. The scholars will engage with Boulder community partners on social and academic life issues to help them develop an understanding of U.S. values and practices, providing a framework to succeed in their future communities. They will also have a chance to network with current CU Boulder graduate students and other faculty in their fields of study, connect with locals through a host family dinner, participate in service-learning projects in the Boulder community, and visit Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as other local attractions.

“This will be their first time in the U.S. for most of the Fulbright scholars, so we are excited that CU Boulder will serve as their access point into U.S. university life and culture,” said Ruth Moore, IEC director. “They will have many opportunities to learn about graduate school expectations and build cross-cultural awareness so they can transition successfully to their universities. This opportunity draws upon the IEC’s extensive experience working with graduate students and aligns closely with the center’s institutional mission of promoting service, collaboration, diversity and a global mindset. We look forward to welcoming the Fulbright scholars and having them share their diverse perspectives with the CU Boulder community.”
