Jennifer McDuffie named interim associate vice chancellor for enrollment management

Jennifer McDuffie, associate vice chancellor and chief of staff in Strategic Resources and Support (SRS), has been named interim associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. McDuffie, who has worked at the university since 2007, will maintain her duties as SRS chief of staff, reporting to Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke for both roles.

Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Ofelia Morales—who oversees the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and the Bursar—will report to McDuffie.

McDuffie replaces former Chief Financial Officer Carla Ho’a, who had been providing interim leadership support to enrollment management since September as she transitioned into retirement.

The university will launch a search for a permanent AVC for the Office of Enrollment Management in early 2023, with a goal of having a new hire in place by summer 2023.

“I am excited and grateful for Jennifer’s willingness to take on this role during this time of transition, and for the support she’ll be able to provide Ofelia and the rest of the enrollment management team,” O’Rourke said. “I am also grateful for Ofelia’s work leading the enrollment management teams during a period of transition. The work of enrollment management shapes so many aspects of the campus, and Ofelia’s leadership has been crucial.

“The next several months will be critical for our university as we embark on the creation of a strategic enrollment strategy, as well as search for a senior leader in enrollment management. I know Jennifer’s expertise and leadership will complement the ongoing good work of our enrollment management team as we launch that initiative and continue to support student success.”

Prior to becoming SRS chief of staff, McDuffie was at the forefront of CU Boulder’s pandemic response as associate vice chancellor for Health and Wellness Services and head of the Pandemic Response Office.

She arrived at CU Boulder in 2007 as an admissions counselor, has more than 18 years of experience in higher education, and has served in multiple leadership roles at CU Boulder that include assistant dean of students and director of New Student & Family Programs. In these roles, she led recruitment and retention initiatives in admissions and in academic policy development, where she created a new honors program in the Leeds School of Business.

“I am excited to continue to build on the momentum that is taking place and look forward to supporting Ofelia and team members within enrollment management as we address near-term needs and long-term strategy,” McDuffie said. “The work we have ahead of us will chart a course for student success and our university’s success for years to come.”

McDuffie holds a bachelor’s degree in family studies and psychology from Mississippi University for Women, a master’s degree in counselor education with an emphasis on student affairs in higher education from Mississippi State University, and a doctorate of educational leadership and equity from CU Denver.
