Chancellor names Katy Herbert Kotlarczyk vice chancellor for advancement

CU Boulder Chancellor Philip DiStefano today named Katy Herbert Kotlarczyk vice chancellor for advancement, effective Aug. 23.

“I am thrilled to have Katy join us at CU Boulder in this top fundraising role, especially now as we begin to move beyond the pandemic and look forward to meeting new goals for investing in our students and faculty and in our teaching and research mission,” said DiStefano. “Katy brings an incredible amount of experience as a leader in higher education fundraising, and her ability to develop a strong team of advancement and alumni professionals as well as other philanthropists is outstanding.”

Kotlarczyk (pronounced cut-lar-chick) currently serves as assistant vice president for central advancement at the University of Colorado system, where she partners closely with the campus-based CU Advancement teams, the Office of the President and CU Foundation. She has been with CU Advancement for 11 years, having started her CU career with the CU Boulder Advancement team in 2010.

She received her master's in business administration from DePaul University and holds a master’s degree in sociology and a bachelor’s degree in American studies from Stanford University. Currently, she is pursuing a doctor of education degree in leadership in educational equity, with a focus on higher education.

“CU Boulder is one of this country’s strongest public higher education institutions, serving not only the state of Colorado but also the broader global community,” said Kotlarczyk. “I am honored to lead this talented advancement team to partner with philanthropists and other constituents who believe in CU Boulder’s mission and are dedicated to making the world a better place.”

The vice chancellor for advancement reports to DiStefano and works in collaboration with DiStefano, his executive leadership team, the campus’s shared governance representatives and colleagues at the CU system and University of Colorado Foundation to set the strategic direction for advancement.

Four finalists were selected for this position following a national search. The chancellor recognized the outstanding qualities and achievements of all the finalists. He thanked Derek Bellin, interim vice chancellor for advancement, and the entire CU Boulder Advancement team for their hard work and continued commitment to making this transition in leadership smooth and successful. DiStefano also thanked Interim Dean of Arts and Sciences Jim White for chairing the search committee.
