Construction begins Monday, Oct. 8, on a reconfiguration of Parking Lots 310 and 324 that will connect the lots and provide a new access to Lot 310 from 18th Street. Lot 324 is a visitor pay-to-park lot on the south side of Wardenburg Health Center, while 310 is an adjacent permit lot.
The work is being done in preparation for a pair of construction projects that will close down a portion of Wardenburg Drive, beginning in November and running through the summer of 2020.
The parking lot work will come in two phases:
- Beginning Monday, crews will work on creating new drive lanes connecting Lots 324 and 310 on the south side of Wardenburg Health Center. A median cut-through will also be installed at the west end of Lot 310 to aid traffic flow. This phase (view map image) will last roughly two weeks depending on weather and other factors.
- Once that phase is complete, work will begin to widen the 18th Street entrance to Lot 324. During this phase, emergency vehicles and visitors will access Lot 324 through the Lot 310 entrance off of Wardenburg Drive, utilizing the newly created connection between the two lots (view map image). This phase will last roughly one week depending on weather and other factors.
Once the parking lot work is complete, the 18th Street entrance and connection with Lot 324 will be the new primary access for Lot 310 permit holders during the construction affecting Wardenburg Drive (view map image).
Two upcoming construction projects necessitate closure of the portion of Wardenburg Drive between Wardenburg Health Center and the Warner Imig Music Building:
- Tentatively scheduled to start Nov. 1 and run into early December, crews will begin replacing a waterline beneath Wardenburg Drive.
- Upon completion of the waterline project, site staging will begin for construction of an addition to the Imig Music Building. That project is slated for completion in summer 2020.
During the Wardenburg Drive closure, the sidewalk along the north side of Wardenburg Health Center will remain open. Flexibility will also remain to open Wardenburg Drive for fall 2019 residence hall move-in.
