With the glistening sun upon us and snow becoming scant, you can feel the aura of excitement as people slowly migrate towardÌýthe outdoors for exercise. This great time of year presents many opportunities to participate in sports that aren’t abundant year-round.

The CU Rec Center has taken away the hassle of trying to get involved with activities such as outdoor flag football, whiffleball, outdoor soccer and ultimate frisbee. Intramural sports areÌýone of the best ways on campus to get back or stay in shape—but act now; registration forÌýIntramural Spring Session II ends tomorrow, March 7.Ìý

Get involved

Registration is now openÌýandÌýends at 11:55 p.m. tomorrow, March 7. Following registration, you will begin a season that lasts from March 11Ìýto April 15.

To join an intramural team, first you'll need to purchase a sports pass. The pass is only $16.50 and gives you the opportunity to play as many sports as you want!ÌýPlease note:ÌýAÌýsports pass does not guarantee a spot in the league.

Here are just a few more reasonsÌýoutdoor intramurals are so awesome:

Teamwork, teamwork and teamwork

Getting outside and working towardÌýa goal of winning the game or making a nice playÌýnot only promoteÌýa healthy lifestyleÌýbut also activateÌýa handful of endorphins that make you feel good. Communication and interaction combined with the beautiful BoulderÌýweather makeÌýfor good camaraderie and helpÌýspawn new friendships.

Competition

When everything is right, such as the weather, your teammates’ attitudes and school, it’s only right to have a little healthy competition. Outdoor intramurals will 100 percentÌýprovide that for you. With a plethora of different divisions in each sport, you have the option to choose how intense you want to get and how much adrenaline you want to get going in the outdoors.

Healthy lifestyle

When you’re outside soaking up the sun and breathing in fresh air, your body is at its best. Nothing is wrong with getting a good workout inside the gym, but working out outside gives you the chance to get a little extra vitamin D and and energy, which is a great start to a healthy lifestyle.
