On Thursday, Feb. 16, law enforcement agencies from around the Denver metro area will be participating in Operation 1 Charlie 3,Ìýan education and enforcement project focusing on Colorado’s Move OverÌýLaw.
This project is named after the radio call sign for Colorado State Trooper Cody Donahue, who was killed on Nov. 25, 2016, when a driverÌýfailed to move over and struck Donahue.
Colorado Revised Statute 42-4-705(2) requires all drivers approaching or passing a stationary authorized emergency vehicle using it’s flashing, rotatingÌýor oscillating lights orÌýa stationary towing-carrier vehicle using its flashing, rotating or oscillating lights shall exhibit due care and caution by moving over at least one lane if possible. If moving over a lane is not possible, drivers are expected to greatly reduce their speed when passing.
Violators of this law could be fined up to $100 per infraction.
