The latest CU Café seminar series will feature Jim Gates,Ìýprofessor at the University of Maryland, College Park, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 5 p.m.
GatesÌýwas the first to defend a PhD thesis on supersymmetry from MIT. Since then, he has continued to liven the conversation about theoretical physics and the inner workings of the universe in every setting he enters. Perhaps most commonly known for his thoughts on string theory (see Ìýor this ),ÌýGates also works to make science relevant and relatable to the general public, particularly our nation’s children.
The title of Gate's upcoming talkÌý"The 1,358,954,496 Matrix Elements to Get From SUSY Diff EQ’s to Pictures, Codes, Card Games, Music, Computers, and Back Again" will discussÌýa recent derivation of a supersymmetrical QM representation spectrum that took some surprising twists and turns along the way.Ìý
