Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter announced Thursday evening (April 19) that Colorado will observe a moment of silence on Friday, April 20, at 10 a.m. MDT out of respect for those killed and injured at Virginia Tech earlier this week. Gov. Ritter spoke with Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia this week and agreed that Colorado would participate in the observance.

Gov. Kaine on Wednesday declared Friday, April 20, a statewide day of mourning in Virginia for the victims of Monday's tragedy at Virginia Tech. On Friday, Gov. Kaine will participate in a service in Monroe Park on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He has encouraged other communities in Virginia and across the nation to hold their own simultaneous ceremonies.

Gov. Ritter has requested that Colorado's college campuses distribute notification of the observance widely on their campuses. Please distribute this notice to fellow students, faculty and staff.
