Baritone Patrick Mason, a University of Colorado at Boulder associate music professor who has been nominated for a Grammy Award this year, will perform in three free campus concerts as part of the annual music faculty series.

On Feb. 6, Mason will perform songs by U.S. and British songwriters, including Roger Quilter, Noel Coward, John Harbison and John Musto, during a concert titled "Crossing the Pond." Pianists Mutsumi Moteki, Robert Spillman, Margaret McDonald and Charles Koslowske also will be featured.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Grusin Music Hall in the Imig Music Building. It is one of 11 concerts highlighting the talent of CU-Boulder's College of Music professors and Denver-area musicians. The faculty series concerts are free and open to the public, with most taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and at 4 p.m. on selected Sundays through March 20.

Mason was nominated for a 2007 Grammy Award in December for his album "Songs of Amy Beach," a collection of 22 classical songs by New England composer and pianist Amy Beach, who lived from 1867 to 1944. Pianist Joanne Polk accompanied Mason on the critically acclaimed CD.

This year's Grammy Awards will air on Feb. 11.

As a recitalist, Mason has appeared in venues as diverse as London's Wigmore Hall and the Cairo Opera House and has performed at music festivals throughout Europe and the United States. He also has been a soloist with the Waverly Consort, the Boston Camarata and Schola Antiqua.

The CU-Boulder community and the general public will have more opportunities to see Mason perform this spring when he takes to the stage for two other faculty series concerts.

At 4:30 p.m. on March 4 he will join collaborative pianist Anne Epperson for "Three's a Crowd!" During the recital, Mason will sing Schumann's "Liederkreis, Opus 24," flutist Christina Jennings will perform George Hue's "Fantasie" and cellist Judith Glyde will perform Haydn's "Trio in G Major." The program, which also will take place at Grusin Music Hall, will conclude with a group performance.

The third faculty series concert featuring Mason and other CU-Boulder performers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on March 13 at Grusin Music Hall. The program "Chamber Vocal Music of the 20th Century" also will feature pianist and vocal coach Christopher Zemliauskas, soprano Julie Simson and pianist Margaret McDonald.

Zemliauskas will perform George Crumb's "Apparition" for amplified piano with Simson, John Adams' "Hallelujah Junction" for two pianos alongside McDonald, and Elliott Carter's "Three Poems of Robert Frost" with Mason.
