The University of Colorado at Boulder will hold its winter commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 22, at 9:30 a.m. in the Coors Events/Conference Center on campus.

Guests should plan to be seated by 9 a.m. and early arrival is strongly suggested due to possible traffic delays. Guests also are asked not to bring large purses or bags to the ceremony, and people entering the center may be subject to search. The university ceremony is free and open to the public.

During the ceremony, 2,091 degrees will be conferred. Degrees to be awarded include 1,596 bachelor's degrees, 322 master's degrees, 162 doctoral degrees and 11 law degrees.

Professor Alexander Cruz, of the ecology and evolutionary biology department and a Presidential Teaching Scholar at CU-Boulder, will give the commencement address. In April, he was awarded the Hazel Barnes Prize, CU-Boulder's highest faculty recognition for teaching and research.

Professor Emeritus Betty Woodman of CU-Boulder's art and art history department will receive an honorary doctorate degree during the ceremony. Woodman, of New York, is an internationally known ceramic artist whose work has been exhibited in some of the most prestigious galleries and museums in the world, including the Whitney Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York. She also had an exhibit in the grand opening of the Denver Art Museum's new Frederick C. Hamilton Building.

Free parking for guests will be available in various lots on campus and at all campus meters. A live webcast of the ceremony and additional information about commencement, including a campus parking map and information for those with disabilities, is available on the Web at .
