The University of Colorado at Boulder's top advertising students will compete for some $5,000 in scholarships next week during a show to be judged by industry professionals from Denver, New York, Chicago and Boulder.

Among the judges at the seventh annual Student Creative Advertising Show will be CU-Boulder alumnus Jason Hoff, co-creator of the cultural phenomenon and Las Vegas tagline "What happens here, stays here."

The CU-Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication sponsors the event each year, showcasing the best work created by seniors in its advertising program.

This year's show will feature a public exhibit of more than 100 student ad campaigns, and will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Dairy Center for the Arts, located at 2590 Walnut St. in Boulder.

"Our advertising creative program has been recognized nationally for the quality of its students and their work," said Brett Robbs, associate professor of advertising. "Over the last five years our students have won more awards at The One Club's prestigious college competition than students from any other four-year university."

The One Club is a New York City-based, non-profit organization that recognizes and promotes advertising excellence. This year, The One Club and Leo Burnett's worldwide advertising agency donated more than $5,000 in scholarships for the CU-Boulder student advertising show.

Judges will review more than 300 ads in categories ranging from best portfolio, best art-directed portfolio, best campaign, best headline-driven advertising and best single ad. Kara Taylor, Leo Burnett's director for creative recruiting in the agency's Chicago office, will present winners with scholarships.

This year's judges will include Hoff, a copywriter at New York's Cliff Freeman and Partners, who co-created the Las Vegas ad campaign during a stint at the entertainment mecca's R&R Partners advertising firm.

Also on the panel of judges will be Steve Whittier, vice president and creative director at Denver's The Factory Lab, and Teri Fildey, director of client services at Boulder's TDA advertising.
