An honor guard will present the national colors, the Colorado Air National Guard will conduct an F-16 flyover, and a remembrance run will conclude at Folsom Field Saturday during Veterans Day pre-game activities planned for the University of Colorado-Iowa State football game.

The festivities will take place before the game's 1 p.m. kickoff, including the conclusion of the 24-hour Prisoners of War and Missing in Action Remembrance Run.

"Now, more than ever, it's important for us to show our support for those serving in our military and to remember those who have sacrificed so much to safeguard our freedom," said Lt. Col. Marvin Meek, commander of CU-Boulder's Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps.

This year, the CU-Boulder athletic department, alumni association and campus-based Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC units are inviting military veterans to be guests of honor at the game, and have distributed more than 2,000 complimentary tickets.

Veterans Day is celebrated annually on Nov. 11. The U.S. Congress established the holiday in 1954 to remember and honor those who have served in each of the nation's wars. The holiday sprang from Armistice Day, which was established to commemorate the end of World War I and to honor soldiers who served in that conflict.
