MEDIA ADVISORY

The University of Colorado at Boulder School of Education will evaluate the success of a teacher incentive program in Denver Public Schools to be expanded by the U.S. Department of Education. A major grant to the program will be announced today at a 1:30 p.m. news briefing in Denver.

The news briefing will be held in the second floor library of Bruce Randolph Middle School at 3955 Steele St. in Denver, and will be attended by officials from the U.S. Department of Education, Denver Public Schools and the CU-Boulder School of Education. The new grant will expand the school district's teacher pay incentive program, known as the Professional Compensation for Teachers program, to include principals.

CU-Boulder Assistant Professor Ed Wiley will lead a team, including CU-Boulder graduate students, that will evaluate the incentive program that has drawn national attention for its efforts to improve Denver Public Schools through teacher pay incentives. CU-Boulder is the only university included in the grant to evaluate the program over the next five years.
